And I cant speak to what other clubs do but the Dogs train 3 times a week, with typically ~20 players from ANZAC day to the NAT's with an extreme focus on fitness. When I talk to others I dont get the same sense of team commitment.

How about Denver's altitude? It's the "Mile-High City" so that must help with fitness. If they also work harder at it than other clubs, then come the end of a tournament with many games that must surely be a factor. So:

high quality Aussies on the field playing well themselves
high quality Aussies on and off the field raising the bar for the Americans
high quality Americans (which might just be good luck, but also with a lot of coaching support)
superior fitness due to training and altitude

Still, you'd expect another club, if it had a large player base to draw on, would eventually move ahead. But does such a club exist? Does an US city have a metro league drawing on more than 100 players yet?
