Japan have won again at the Arafura Games, this time big winners over the Northern Territory Super Rules side. This brings them to two wins from two games and should guarantee them a playoff spot for the Gold medal.
The Samurai dominated from the opening bounce, only letting in two goals for the match, both in the third quarter.
Japan 12.10 (82) NT Super Rules 2.0 (12) Japan Goalkickers - Jun Oakawa 4, Hiroyuki Shiba 3, Yukihde Nishida 2, Takashi Yamazari 2, Yuta Tsutsumi 1 Best - Yuta Tsutsumi, Yukihide Nishida, Masahiro Kawano NT Super Rules Goalkickers - Peter Kiernan 1, Chris Lyndon 1 Best - Rick Paul, David Abrahamson, Peter Kiernan, Chris Lyndon
In the other match, the NT Indigenous Development Squad again had a huge win, defeating the NT Crocs side by 104 points. The next match will be NT Super Rules vs the Crocs, and Japan vs the NT Indigenous Development Squad, on Wednesday night. These effectively become "dead rubbers", as two teams have won both matches and two have lost both, so the medal playoff matches have already been set. This means Japan will play the NT Indigenous Development Squad for the Arafura Games Australian football Gold medal, later in the week.
