History:   The modern era of Australian football in Vietnam commenced with expatriate Australian clubs that came and went in Saigon and Hanoi. In 2003 the Hanoi Swans began again, and in 2007 the Swans had bases in both major cities, with the combined squad playing as the Vietnam Swans.

Outlook (2010):   Like many Asian countries, Australian football is played mainly by expat-Aussies and in a very small number of teams. Whether this will break out into mass participation amongst locals remains to be seen, although Auskick clinics have been run and may provide the starting point for consistent growth.

Other points of interest:   The Southern Dragons (formerly Elgar Park Dragons) is a team in the Southern Football League in Victoria which consists primarily of Vietnamese-Australians.
