History:   Starting in the late 1990s, the Solomons suffered civil unrest (verging on civil war), which was stabilised in 2003 by an Australian-led intervention force, RAMSI. In 2004, a group of Solomon Islanders and Australian Defence personnel formed the Solomon Islands Australian Football Association with the hope of forming a stable, organised league in the country. However, after some promising initial clinics and scratch matches, the organisation went into hiatus. In 2007 the Clark-Dunning trophy saw local Islanders with a few Australian army personnel competing and local children being taught the game's basics.

Outlook (2009):   It is not clear whether efforts are ongoing. Plenty of Australian military and police provide a potential base. Hopefully the launch of AFL Oceania will ensure a formal program gets a chance on the Solomon Islands.
