Internationally Developed AFL Players - CurrentThe following is a list of players who learnt Australian Football outside of Australia who went on to play in the Australian Football League and currently still do so. This is a true measure of grass roots growth of the game internationally, as opposed to players from other sports who were identified and often brought to Australia to learn the game, e.g. Gaelic footballers and hurlers. Currently no players have achieved this breakthrough through to senior AFL matches, and through the first decade of the 21st century we have been waiting for the first success, expecting it to be either a Papuan or South African. There are now promising candidates in PNG's Amua Pirika, Stanis Susuve, Peter Labi and David Meli.
