AFL Draft Combine Wrap - The Internationals

General News

The AFL's Talent Manager, Kevin Sheehan, discussed the 2013 AFL Draft Combine with WFN's Troy Thompson.  They chatted about how the international athletes fared at Etihad stadium in Melbourne.  With two players listed as international rookies with AFL clubs before the camp finished, one already listed last year and American Patrick Mitchell listed by the Swans earlier in the year after the US Combine - the AFL will be pleased with the fruits of their labour at the international combines in Europe and the US this year.  We've uploaded the audio and photos of some of the players to our youtube channel.

Young Irishman Daniel Flynn picked up by Port Adelaide

General News

LEFT: Flynn with Port coach Ken Hinkley.

19-year-old Irishman Daniel Flynn has been signed on for two years as an international rookie by AFL club Port Adelaide, after meeting with club management at Alberton Oval on Monday ahead of this week's AFL draft screening.

Flynn was identified by his former countryman Tadhg Kennelly, during the AFL talent screening session of 24 prospects in Ireland in March this year. He is seen as a potential running half-back or midfielder, after he impressed with his speed and agility, achieving 2.83 seconds in the 20 m sprint.

A native of Johnstownbridge in County Kildare, Flynn has been a promising junior Gaelic footballer for the Lilywhites, as Kildare's GAA side are known.

His signing follows hot on the heels of Jason Holmes from the USA, who was signed by St Kilda as an international rookie this week.

Port Adelaide's official press release follows.

AFL Clubs looking at 3 Further International prospects

General News

At least 5 AFL clubs are reportedly interested in some international talent arriving in Melbourne, with American pair Jason Holmes and Mark Cisco, and Irishman Daniel Flynn being invited to train under the clubs' eyes before taking part in next week's NAB AFL Draft Combine.

The two Americans were first flagged as potential AFL players at the combine held in Los Angeles in April. They are both looking at key position or ruck roles, with Holmes standing 203cm, and Cisco at 207cm.

Young Irishman Flynn is being groomed as a running defender as the 19-year-old has explosive pace and power. He played for the European Legion against the AIS-AFL Academy team in Surrey in April.

2013 AFL Grand Final - International Broadcast Schedule

General News
The international broadcast schedule for the 2013 AFL Grand Final to be played in Melbourne this Saturday local time can be seen below. All times are correct at the time of publishing and WFN takes no responsibility for changes to the schedule.

Last year's runners up Hawthorn, play Fremantle who are making their AFL Grand Final debut.

AFL Gameday and The Pre Game Show will only be shown in the Middle East on Orbit Showtime Network and in NZ on Sommet Sports.  Our friends from AFANA tell us this is due to a dispute over the host broadcaster Channel 7's insistence that it's logo be shown on this programming so most networks will not carry it.   So all other international carriers will show the match only (and highlights packages as below).
