Three points regarding the IC:
1. No more than once every four years - possibly even less frequently.
2. They should look at holding regional tournaments the year before and allow the top eight across the board to go to the IC. With a set and small number, the AFL might see a way to help with the travel costs and it would be easier to plan it.
3. Take it on the road. Imagine an IC in New York, Paris or London? I know part of the attraction is for players to go to Australia to see AFL games, but these days we can see them all on the internet.

Congrats to the Danes and the other teams we don't see out here. Germany and Croatia are also strong but there are 10 teams equal to France or above. That's around $500k in airfares just there. Include North America and you're looking at $600k for the men alone. Then there is all the Southern hemisphere countries.
It's a vexing question. Too complex to be answered in short but I suspect a mixture of funding and sponsorship in line with increased public recognition will improve the situation. In the mean time Europe has the opportunity to build something special.
