U15 National Kickstart Championships – Townsville 2013
Authored by: Wesley Hull on Thursday, April 11 2013 @ 09:49 pm ACST

After a terrific week of football  in Townsville at the National U15 Kickstart Championships, Western Australia has held of a determined Victoria/Tasmania team to take out the title again. After being in front by just a goal, and having trailed at stages during the game, the yound WA team came home with a 5 goal to one last quarter to win 9 18 72 to 6 4 40. The end margin was convincing, but doesn't tell the story of the fight put up by the VIC/Tas boys.

This win makes it three from three for the WA side and they have successfully defended their 2012 title.

This is the last stage of the Townsville Festival of Footy, and the city should be proud of it's efforts to host an AFL NAB Cup game as well as national and international titles. This can only be good for football in the northern part of  Australia going forward. With the final game of the Gold Coast v Richmond games coming in July (Richmond has said it won't come back after two upset losses to the Suns in Cairns, and no definite replacement found) it is fair to say that North Queensland has proved beyond doubt that it can not only host mmajor Australian Rules football events, but it also does them as well as any other place in the country.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches, officials and fans who supported the Kickstart Championships, and congratulations to the boys from the west.
