Asian footy future - call for peak Asian body

The Europe model (AFL Europe) appears to working quite well and Asia couldn't do any worse by setting up a similar organisation, but the impetus to get it going has to come from the Asian Leagues/Clubs. AFL Europe has an 'Articles of Association' that could be used by an Asian Association (with modifications to suit Asia eg. tele-conferencing could be used for Assembly Meetings). I guess the challenge is for at least a couple of 'presidents/founders' of the leagues to draft up an Articles of Association and a draft set of policies that all leagues and clubs on Asia can collectively peruse and modify to suit and to ultimately agree upon. They may not be able to get the AFL(world governing body) to fund a fully paid General Manager as in Europe but might be able to get the AFL(wgb) to part fund a stipend for their General Manager at first. They would need to get close to all the clubs and Leagues that exist in Asia on board at least as members and/or affiliates. That means China, Japan, Philippine leagues and the clubs in Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo, and possibly even India and Timor Leste need to be at least affiliates. |
