I think it's hard to gauge the relevance of this competition while the SANFL's strongest sides haven't the inclination to get involved.

Yes! Odd that the same three teams that played in this comp last year are playing again. Oh well! At least in 2012 there is actually a finalist from 2011 playing, South Adelaide ended season 5th tho' eliminated in Elimination Final(first match of finals). The fact that the same teams from SANFL are playing again seems to indicate the hamfisted process that ended up with these teams playing is being repeated or is it the AFL trying to "punish" the other teams for not joining the comp. Makes ya wonder!!!

IMO this is an extremely selfish attitude by some SANFL clubs akin to clubs that withhold players from representitive teams for fear of impact of injury etc. This competition is really a rare gift at a time when the ABC seems to be wanting to curtail it's state sporting commitments, this at it's full potential, the Foxtel Cup is a second national competition raising the profileof all state bodies. With the new entities of the NEAFL and NT Thunder all regions of Australia are represented. The introduction of an international side being invited has been postponed but that does not remove the Foxtel Cup as a vehicle for future international competition and what a magnificent day that would be if we had a NZ or PNG side competing in an Australian football competition. Imagine the hysteria of a PNG home game or the amount of interest generated by an RSA or NZ home game.
