Interesting to hear Stan Alves on ABC Radio's coverage of Melbourne v Richmond today lament the game style at quarter time and refer to the instinctive footy that he watched yesterday in the Sth Africa v Denmark game that he wished he was seeing today.

That's a great comment by Alves and will be appreciated by the AFL South Africa staff and players - they intentionally encourage the fun and flair side of footy, as do the PNG staff with the concept of "Pure AFL... purely Papua New Guinea".

I didn't hear the comment and I don't know if he was referring to both sides but
I've often thought Danish domestic games can be more entertaining to watch
than AFL games. But then again I barrack for Richmond :-).

All you can ask for is consistency from a team, and Richmond give you that year in year out - 9th spot. And even better, this year was a "good 9th" apparently.

Back to the main article, just to reiterate, thanks to Marty for a great match report, it meant it didn't matter that I was a couple of minutes late and I got to actually watch other aspects of the game and have a chat to a few people. Looks like it'll be a 2 man endeavour for Warrnambool, Troy and myself, so expect some of those match reports to not appear until perhaps the following day.
