AFL Cairns makes tough call – but was it the right call?

The Cairns Post newspaper today reported that the Manunda Hawks club have accepted the 12 month ban from competition imposed by AFL Cairns.

Since this article was published on our site, the Manunda Hawks sought legal advice in the hope of overturning the ban. However, they have chosen to accept the ban rather than pump money into legal fees. Instead they will invest the money into their junior programs (unaffected by the bans) to build the club for the future.

AFL Cairns have advised that arrangements have been made for other local clubs to absorb players for the 2015 season, but it is unclear what this arrangement puts in place for the return of Hawks' players for 2016.
