I know it has been brought up that an all-amateur Australian side would possibly be too strong to compete in the 2008 International Cup, but I wonder if anyone has considered the entry of 8 Australian state all-amateur sides into the carnival.
This concept has been tried to a lesser extent, with ACT leagues playing New Zealand at junior levels.
Similar eligibility rules would apply (ie. for states, you must be an amateur player and played a certain number of games for a local amateur club/league). Such games could even hold these games in other states. For example, NT vs South Africa in Darwin etc. would be really interesting. It would be a great opportunity for participation from players from lesser AFL states and a great cultural exchange. This would also help to increase local attendances (given that the Australian audiences will actually have someone to barrack for).
Another concept that would be interesting to see could be for the highest ranked Australian state to actually repesent Australia in the finals (assuming, of course, one made it that far).
