I think when the PNG vs SA game finishes you'd better publish a new story for us Aaron, crunching the numbers so we can see who makes the Men's Div 1 GF.

With PNG beating SA by such an unexpectedly large margin they are back in the hunt. And although the US thumped France it was not by as much as could've been expected.

The winner of Ireland vs NZ goes through (undefeated). But if you assume one of them loses say 40 to 20 (I expect a defensive game) then what does the loser's % look like compared with PNG and the USA? Better say it's unofficial too!

See how I go for time... but as of 1pm Melbourne time, the US are out of contention, question is just who plays NZ on Saturday.

I wonder who NZ would PREFER to play. Seems that choice is in their hands. Though most likely they'll just try to win to keep their good form going.

Yeah at this point probably no need for a story - start preparing the one that says who made it and who didn't.

Ireland lead. If NZ get another 4 or 5 unanswered goals kicked against them there's a suggestion NZ could fall out of the top 2, presumably caught by PNG on %. Going down to the wire.

That's awful, hope she's ok... any update from the ground on her condition?

I've heard that she is moving her fingers and toes. That was about 50 minutes after the injury.

Canada look safe - but the injuries to Kirsti Oja (knee - that really sucks - was looking forward to seeing her on Etihad) - and now the US ruck in Brette Brower - looks like neck - being treated very seriously - although on replay she's had movement after going down but getting treated very carefully and waiting on an ambulance. Odd that just a stones throw from the hospitals and no ambulance able to get here yet.

Yeah I was wondering if Kirsti might be an AFLW chance? Hope it's not too serious. You have to wonder whether 4 or 5 games so close together is a problem, though they are shortened and perhaps this is a collision injury? But still, the intensity is high, a lot of games in a short space of time.

I guess the flipside argument would be that with so many games of course there will be a few nasty injuries, just as there are when that many games are played out over a longer period.

Finger crossed on that neck injury too. Medicos are ultra careful these days which often gives the impression that something serious has happened whereas it may just be precautionary.

Jason Arnold (Northern Lights coach) confirmed it looks like an ACL - seeing it happen - the best case would be MCL but looked more like an ACL.

Given it was a played falling into her leg - it's not as if it was a fatigued joint giving way. However - for the Womens I thought it was a big ask to be playing Sunday and backing up already on Tuesday - yeah - they played the afternoon games so got to sleep in. I guess last week there were 4 mens teams that played Wednesday and backed up Friday evening. I reckon both Fiji and South Africa pulled up very sore out of that and perhaps suffered for it today.

NZ goal after the siren from a free kick and win the game. I believe that means NZ through and PNG make it on % ahead of a desperately unlucky Ireland.

So on a "live" ladder, Ireland fell from 1st to 3rd or 4th based on that last kick.

GB very competitive against Ireland in their women's semi-final.

One of the stories of this tournament is the sudden jump from really 3 big women's teams (Canada, Ireland, USA) to 5 (with the arrival of GB and improvement in Fiji) and PNG have improved greatly and could be very dangerous next time. Would've loved to see NZ here too. There could be 7 very good sides at IC20, hopefully along with 3 or 4 developing sides.

How many years do you reckon before a World All-Stars women's side could take on an AFLW club side?

Sadly, at current rate, decades. Because there is a massive wave of athletic girls taking up footy across Australia in staggering numbers. The gap between AFLW and international women is as small as it is likely to be for a long long time.

That's why I'm so keen for international rookie spots on AFLW lists. Get some of these internationals in now so they get the benefit of a pro environment, some will quickly become good enough and move on to the main list. Then at least the world sees what is possible and can inspire greater growth in the international leagues before they are swamped by the 10s of 1000s of girls playing in Australia now.

Alas the AFL (informal conversations) had various reasons for not doing it. I haven't given up the good fight yet though. I have heard that AFL clubs had scouts there.

A couple of recommendations from todays action - -

10 mins into the 2nd qtr NZ v Ireland - {40 mins into the Youtube of the match) Ireland just scored a behind (that they initially seemed to think had snuck through.
NZ kick in, the roving from the pack and the transition by hand to go length of the ground and end with a kick spotting up the skipper Howison in front for a goal - - that was just ripping play, included a blind turn in the centre of the ground to be proud of.

PNG v South Africa - nearing the end, about 13:38 of the last quarter (1:30:17 into the youtube of the match) - Scott Johnson takes an absolute mark of the tournament contender. Worth the effort to track down - but turn down the volume as the "JOHNSON" from the commentator will burst your ear drums!!

I wonder if between us we could mark out a top 10 IC moments on youtube. I know the Sri Lankan first goal in IC footy back on the first Sunday might be a moment. Assuming on Friday there'll be a moment when the Europe Crusaders snag their first goal (and assume win??).

Anyone else with moments they can trace back to fairly quickly (i.e. games you watched, that were streamed - don't want anyone sitting watching hours of games blindly).
