Irishman Mark O'Connor has chosen to sign with Geelong Football Club in the AFL after trialling at the NAB AFL Draft Combine in Melbourne earlier this month.  He will be signed to the club as an International Rookie and officially listed in the upcoming National Draft.

Irish media have widely reported his move to "Sleepy Hollow" after he confirmed it on Irish Radio na Gaeltachta’s An Saol ó Dheas this morning.

“It’s a very quiet place, like Dingle, and I was very comfortable there. I was really taken with Geelong.

“When I went in there everyone was very friendly, and I felt at home there,” the 19-year-old midfielder added."

If he is successful in the AFL he could even become more famous than Dingle's greatest resident Fungi the Dolphin.

He would be hoping to have an Irish team mate at the Cats and that could be confirmed by the end of the AFL's trade period with Carlton's Zach Tuohy also looking to play with Geelong next year.

Fellow Irishman Padraig Lucey has spent the last two year's at Geelong by has been delisted by the club since this season's end.
