Europe
The finals of the 2016 AFL Europe European Championships were played at Motspur Park in London on Saturday. All the matches as expected were befitting of finals footy with the title on line.

Hosts Great Britain in the end took all the silverware though with the Bulldogs running out 22 point winners over Ireland and the Swans winning by just a goal over the Irish Banshees.

Earlier in the day the German Eagles took out the third place match by just a point. Leading by 20 points heading into the final quarter they just held out the fast finishing Elks in a nailbiting finish.

Sweden                1.3         1.3         1.4         4.5 (29)
Germany              0.0         3.1         4.6         4.6 (30)

The Swans vs Banhsees was one big arm wrestle. After four quarters of footy just one goal was scored and that goal was the decider. The Swans taking home the trophy, the bragging rights and plenty of confidence as they now look to IC17 in Melbourne next year.

GB Swans            0.0         1.1         1.1         1.2 (8)
Irish Banshees    0.1         0.1         0.2         0.2 (2)

It was important for the Bulldogs to get out of the blocks early against the Irish Warriors if they were to pull off a victory today. And that is just what they did as they posted five goals to one in the first quarter.

From here the Warriors were able to settle and the match was evenly poised throughout the last three quarters. But that initial first quarter flourish from the Bulldogs left them with a winning buffer. Running out 22 point winners in the end they are deserved Champions of Europe.

GB Bulldogs        5.3         5.3         6.8         7.9 (51)
Irish Warriors     1.0         1.2         3.2         4.5 (29)
