The Gold Coast Suns tonight confirmed they have signed an American to an International Scholarship position.  Brandon Kaufman, a wide receiver who was previously signed as a free agent with the Buffalo Bills in the NFL in 2013 will initially play with Labrador on the Gold Coast while learning the game.

Kaufman and a second potential recruit John Peters (who is on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad) were trained for three weeks by the Kick Builders US talent program in Denver in 2015 with the aim of getting them onto an AFL list.  Kick Builders have been working with the Gold Coast Suns to improve kicking since early 2014.

Kaufman can be seen in action at the 2013 NFL Draft combine at the link here.

GC SUNS recruiting manager Dom Ambrogio spoke of Kaufman's future on the Gold Coast Suns website.

“We are excited to announce Brandon has joined the SUNS as an international scholarship player,” Ambrogio said.

“Aside from his unique athleticism and size, Brandon’s appeal was his elite level competitiveness and work rate.

“He is a proven athlete; his experience as a wide receiver in the NFL has meant he has developed an elite ability to catch under duress.

“Brandon’s American football experience means he knows what it takes reach the elite level, and we’re confident, with hard work, he has the ability to establish himself as a player for the Gold Coast SUNS.”
