Looking at the internationals in the VFL this week the headline act was the ruck clash between Americans Mason Cox the International Rookie and Alex Aurricchio who went through the same combine as Cox but did not get picked up by an AFL club. The match was played as the curtain raiser to the AFL clash between Collingwood and Carlton at the MCG.
Cox not only with the advantage of the full time resources of the Collingwood Football Club and the Lexus Centre (see the Youtube clip below) but with an extra 13cm or so in height was the winner on the day with the Magpies home by 68 points. Aurrichio who is in Australia largely under his own steam and not at an AFL club had seven disposals, 8 tackles and 18 hitouts. Cox finished with 2 goals 1 behind, 11 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and 21 hitouts.
Eric Wallace (USA) continued his run of form (with similar stats to Mason Cox) 2 goals, 12 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and 26 hitouts for Werribee as they defeated Essendon by 28 points. Conor McKenna (Ire) finished with one goal and four disposals for the Bombers.
Jason Holmes (USA) was on the winners list too with the Zebras winning 120-87 against the Boroughs. Holmes racked up 32 hitouts for the day along with 4 disposals and 5 tackles.
Box Hill looked to secure top spot in the VFL with a 79 point win over Casey. Kurt Heatherley (NZ) who this week signed a contract extension with Hawthorn had 14 disposals, 7 marks and 1 tackle in defence and Shem Tatupu (NZ) failed to goal this week up forward kicking just the one behind and having 9 disposals and 4 hitouts. See more on Kurt here at Hawks TV.
Joe Baker-Thomas(NZ) returned to the Sandringham Development League team as they ran out 51 point winners over Port Melbourne.
