Round 8 of the VFL saw a number of Internationals taking to the park, we take a look at their performances.

After his breakthrough VFL game in Round 6, Alex Aurrichio (USA) returned to senior VFL footy this week for the Northern Blue’s Round 8 ‘Battle of Bell St’ clash with Coburg. He had 35 hitouts four kicks, four handballs and eight tackles but his Blues lost by two points. Ciaran Byrne (Ire) is a chance to return for the Blues this week with a test on his hamstring injury.

Kurt Heatherley (NZ) had 6 kicks, 5 marks, 5 handballs and 3 tackles and was solid in defence for the Box Hill Hawks who were easy winners over Port Melbourne.

Jason Holmes (USA) was again solid in the ruck for Sandringham with 30 hitouts in their 27-point win over North Ballarat.

A goal from Mason Cox (USA) and 20 hit outs wasn’t enough for Collingwood to get home over Casey Scorpions as they went down by four points.

Irish compatriots went head to head at Etihad Stadium with Essendon’s Conor McKenna (Ire)coming out on top for both match performance and result. McKenna kicked four goals for the Bombers and was named among the best players. Geelong’s Padraig Lucey (Ire) had 9 hit outs in the ruck along with one kick, 5 handballs, 2 marks and 2 tackles. Essendon finished up trouncing the Cats by 92 points.

Development League
Joe Baker-Thomas played his sixth match for the Sandringham Development team who lost to Casey by 22 points. Eric Wallace was also on the wrong side of a 60 point margin as he rucked for Werribee against Williamstown.

Box Hill Hawks had an 11 point win over Port Melbourne with two goals from Shem Tatupu (NZ) enough to get the Hawks over the line.
