A new, revamped, AFL Fiji competition gets under way this weekend in Suva for the 2015 season. The off season has seen much work put into the glittering new look for the competition and the clubs themselves.

As announced by AFL Fiji, “[it’s a] new season, new captains, new teams - it's a fresh start for the AFL Fiji 2015 men's competition. The season starts this Saturday 23 May at USP and continues with two matches every Saturday at 9.00am and 11.00am.”

“Round 1 will start with a bang as last year's grand finalists face off in the first game of the season at 9.00am with the proud old Cats Kaukauwa looking for some revenge against the re-badged reigning premiers Giant Gata.”

“At 11.00am the plucky Swans Rerevaki take on the might of Lion Killa - both teams loaded with new faces and expected to be serious premiership challengers in 2015.”

Not only has the men’s competition taken on new names and new images, the women’s competition also boasts a new look.

“Our women's teams have been named, drafted and announced. From Saturday 23 May, the AFL Fiji women's competition will commence with matches at 11am every Saturday at USP between the Royal Eagles and the Qio Vula (White Sharks). Thank you to all the ladies that have trained, played and registered already, in particular our outstanding captains Siteri and Matelita.”

The new season will also feature the very popular Bulakick program – a grassroots development program for kids. Bulakick will also kick off this weekend as part of the grand season opener.

AFL Fiji describe their Bulakick program as “based on the Auskick program run widely throughout Australia, Bulakick provides boys and girls of primary school age with a fun and safe introduction to Australian Football. The program aims more broadly to foster a healthy lifestyle through activities for individuals and teams, and provides an opportunity for development of personal and social skills.”

As stated by AFL Fiji, “all children aged 4 to 11 years old are enthusiastically welcomed to join us as Bulakick continues this Saturday 23 May and every Saturday morning until September from 9.00-10.30am at the Maile Park playing grounds within the University of the South Pacific (USP), Suva, from this weekend. Bulakick will be coached by AFL Fiji's senior players under the coordination of national women's team captain Siteri Tadrau.”

It is shaping as a huge weekend for AFL Fiji in Suva. Regular updates on all of AFL Fiji's activities can be found on their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/AFL-FI...21?fref=ts
