This Friday, March 28th, the OSN AFLME 2013/14 Grand Final will be played at The Sevens Pitch in Dubai featuring the Dubai Dragons and the Doha Kangaroos in a replay of last year’s premiership match. A Middle Eastern rivalry is now brewing between these clubs, and both are keen to rewrite their own history books on the day.

As the weather heats up again across the region, a top temperature of high twenties is expected, and will certainly test the fitness of both teams. The 1pm starting time will place the game at the hotter part of the day, and whichever team handles the conditions better may well win out on the day.

As previously reported in our last article about the AFL Middle East competition , the Dubai Dragons currently hold the advantage over the Qatar based Doha Kangaroos, having won last year’s flag as well as despatching the Roos in their only meeting this year to the tune of 34 points.

For the Dragons there is the delectable possibility of making it three flags in a row, supplanting the former foundation club Dubai Heat as the league’s most successful club.

The lads from Doha, however, have one thing on their minds. Their maiden premiership and revenge for last year’s loss. Alright, two things!

The Kangaroos will be looking to their ruckman Joe Barnes, Ben Simpson, a tall athletic midfielder and Dylan Alexander, a small goal kicking forward to blaze the path for the rest of the team to follow.

Amongst the Dragon key players, Ryan Perkins, their big strong full forward, Mark Browne (their 195cm utility who has won past two best on ground Grand Final medals) and Huwy Jones, their midfield captain and general who runs all day will be relied upon heavily to get the Dragons over the line.

After the completion of the home and away season the Dragons finished on top with five wins whilst the Kangaroos finished a clear second with four. The Abu Dhabi Falcons finished a creditable third with three wins, which was an improvement on last season.

Friday afternoon will see the two best performed teams in the Middle East for the past two seasons fight it out in a battle for the ages. May the best team prevail. Regardless of the result, history will be made in the annals of the AFL Middle East.

World Footy News will publish the results of the grand final as soon as they become available.
