WFN had a correspondent in attendance at the match and will have a report in the near future.

In the meantime, I hope I'm not stepping on his toes by alerting you to this interesting article that appeared in the Melbourne's The Age newspaper this morning - We want AFL team: Kiwis.

Fantastic news coming out of NZ all round.I was surprised to see Wellington quoted as a city of just under 500k. A 22k crowd for AFL is great but it would be very difficult to sustain. The Hurricanes drew 6k the week before in what I'm presuming is a RU dominated town. Where's the passion? Wellington (city) have said they want an AFL team but you'd imagine that Auckland would be more viable with the right stadium.

If St K plan to play 1-2 in Wellington each year, it will be interesting to see how many do keep coming.

Interesting to note that less than 7,000 were at the Suns vs Giants in Canberra this weekend, although Caberra's not that much smaller than Wellington (although, to be fair it WAS Suns vs Giants).

Media response in NZ was positive...  Maybe the traditional hostility to footy that you get in e.g. Sydney from sections of the sporting public isn't as much of an issue in NZ?
