Aussie young guns over European Legion by 86 points

Europe

The AIS-AFL Academy, the cream of Australia's young football talent, has defeated the open-age (but focussed on roughly under 23) European Legion side 15.14 (104) to 3.0 (18) at Surrey Sportspark, England.  Hopefully more details to follow later.

Is this result closer than last year's result? I'm curious to know whether the European Legion seem to be improving or not.

Legion is Europe's Under 21's, Titans are the open age team.

Yes, the Legion is showing some "improvement", in 2010 the margin was 171 points, 2012 the AIS/AFL were restricted to 146 points for a margin of 134 points. This year the Legion's defence kept AIS/AFL to only 104 points and also managed to kick more than 2 goals.

Just imagine what would happen if a couple of the Legion guys were offered a scholarship to come to the AIS for a couple of months to train and play with the AIS/AFL kids. The mind boggles!!!

Also note that the team has a number of players from the combine in Ireland that have not played a competitive game of Aussie rules before.

I wrote that the Legion are open-age, but have corrected that to the more accurate (but also vague) "open-age (but focussed on roughly under 23)".

Last year the Legion was officially described as under 23 but for this year a quick check of some ages from our previous records shows at least 2 players aged 23 as at 1 January 2013.

It will be interesting to find out whether the conditions restricted the AIS-AFL or whether it was improvement by the locals.
