Updated: NZ to get live streaming of all AFL matches

OceaniaIn season 2013 AFL fans in Australia and New Zealand will have the option of streaming a single match for AU$5 , a monthly subscription for $14.99 (NZ$17.99 through iTunes) , or a season pass for $89.99 (NZ$109.99 through iTunes). This provides access to a live video stream of every AFL match in 2013. For Google Play subscription the cost is calculated on the exchange rate from the Australian dollar amount at the time of subscription.

The official AFL Live App can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play marketplaces.

This is a separate service to AFLTV which provides live online match streaming to international AFL fans outside Australia and New Zealand.

We hope there will also be an announcement of of a TV deal in NZ by the end of the month with feedback from the AFL stating "We do have great things in store for the Premiership Season in terms of TV broadcast rights...(but we) cannot provide any further details at this time, but a media release is set to go out in coming fortnight." Fans on any Australian mobile network can now access live streaming of every AFL match – 2013 NAB Cup (broadcast matches), the 2013 Toyota AFL Premiership Season and the 2013 Toyota AFL Finals Series - thanks to the updated, Wi-Fi compatible 2013 AFL Live App.

The 2013 AFL Live App, powered by Telstra, is the official online destination for AFL news, video and stats and includes live streaming of AFL matches via mobile, tablet and PC.

AFL Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Gillon McLachlan, said the latest AFL Live App includes features that will significantly increase online accessibility for fans.

“In 2012 we saw over 1.3 million fans download the AFL Live App in its first year alone and this year’s updated version has more features and greater usability for fans to enjoy.

“We welcome Telstra’s decision to make the service available to all fans regardless of their network carrier. This feature, coupled with the fact that the service is now Wi-Fi compatible, ensures fans unprecedented online access to every AFL match.

“Aside from live and on demand match coverage, this app once again offers fans the latest detailed stats, team news and information along with multiple highlights and commentary options.

“Quite simply this service means fans can watch AFL matches from more places, with more flexibility, and with more features than ever before.”

Executive Director of Telstra Media, J-B Rousselot, said: “The 2013 AFL Live App is a great example of the terrific working partnership Telstra have with the AFL.

“We’re particularly excited to be offering live game streaming to all Australian smartphone and tablet owners.

“Telstra customers have the added benefit of no data costs and superior coverage on our 3G and 4G networks, ensuring a richer on-the-go experience.” NZ Customers however will not have unmetered streaming as it is only avaiable to Telstra customers within Australia.
