Heslin leaves Richmond and returns to Ireland

General News

Richmond international rookie John Heslin has returned home to Ireland indefinitely. The 19-year-old was selected by the Tigers with pick 90 in the 2011 Rookie Draft, and played in Ireland's winning 2011 International Cup team.

“It’s never easy for young players to relocate to a new country, a long away from their family and friends. John found that transition difficult, and has experienced homesickness,” Richmond FC general manager of football Craig Cameron said.

“We have worked hard to support John and will continue to do so, but we understand his decision to return home at this time.”

He wasn't even here for 12 months.  I realise it's a tough gig but you have to wonder sometimes.  Either the clubs aren't providing genuine support or I have to wonder about some of these guys.

Ronan Steede (Ireland) spend 6 weeks in pre season training with Richmond in Jan 2011 and love it there.  He was very well looked after and make feel very welcome.  He played last season with feeder club Grovedale before returning home to Ireland during the close season.   He is back again this year with Grovedale and hoping to get spotted by a bigger club.
