IC11 Squad - Viking youth are ready to plunder

International Cup 2011

Denmark return for the third time out of four International Cups. Long lauded as having the most advanced junior program in Europe, the Danes will be keen to start putting results on the board. An impressive runners-up at the 2010 European Championships suggests the team is on the right path.

The Vikings' squad has a reasonably tall average height at nearly 184 cm, although only one really tall player in Michael Neugebauer at 198 cm (6'6"), who has been playing for the Fitzroy Reds in Victoria. As usual the majority of the Danes come from the successful Farum Cats club on the island of Zealand (home to the capital Copenhagen).

There's also a good mix of players from other clubs and a couple based in other countries, in René Damborg Jensen (Norway) and Páll Tómas Finnsson (France), as well as Neugebauer. The average age is 26.

This guy is a gun...

Wierd situation here... He is orginally from Iceland.... played for Denmark in 2005 IC then captain them in the 2008 IC...... move to Paris through work.... played for Iceland in the 2010 European champs and now playing for France in the 2011 IC??

Whatever the case he will be one to watch whatever team he plays for.... If France dont get into Division One... they will be my tip to go close and win Division Two..... France have a lot of Rugby boys from the Southern part of the country who have take up the sport and will be travelling to Oz!!

Yep, Pall is a special case - an Icelander who was a long-term resident of Denmark and now a long-term resident of France.  Good footballer too by all accounts, was selected in the IC02 team of tournament wasn't he?

Also, when Pall captained Iceland at the EC last year, I think he brought a few French mates along to make up the numbers for Iceland.

I'll be looking forward to seeing how France go, has anyone heard if the 3 guys at Coolangatta were able to stay long enough to come down and play at the IC?

At least one of the guys is still in Coolangatta. Not sure about the other two, but my guess is that they are still in Australia.

Re the French question, France has 3 guys based in Oz in their squad (we'll have it published tomorrow morning).  One from Coolangatta and 2 from Robinvale.

I know this sounds pretty irrelevent but I'd wish they would get rid of the horns on the helmets. The Vikings never did wear them in battle.
