International Rules In 2008 it looked like it would be Collingwood that would be heading to Ireland to play an Irish club in International Rules, but now Melbourne could be the ones to make it happen. All on the back of the famous life and times of the most incredible story in Australian rules footy.

Melbourne’s President Jim Stynes, Brownlow medallist and the most successful convert to our game has had a high profile battle with cancer in recent times. He has managed to do great things for his former club and for so many in the community in Australia.

As a tribute to Stynes the Demons hope to convince both the AFL and GAA to stage a special match to honour the Dublin boy.

In the Irish Examiner Cameron Schwab said "It's a seed of an idea at the moment that basically, if it all came together, would go back to where it all started for Jimmy,"

"Dublin was where he grew up. His brother Brian played for Dublin in the 1995 All-Ireland final, as well as a few games for Melbourne and, of course, the latter half of Jim's life has been here.

"His story is Irish and Australian and significant in both countries. His documentary, which aired here a few months ago, was shown in Ireland last week to a tremendous response.

"If we could take our team to Dublin, to share Jim's achievements with the Irish, it would be a wonderful thing."
