North America Bryan Dragus came to the Westen Magpies (in AFL Queensland's top league) this year after big wraps had been put on his game in the few limited chances he had to show his talent in the Golden Gate league last year. After two good performances he has been named in the Mapgies' side on the forward flank for their round three clash against Redland tomorrow.

It's early days for Dragus, but he looks like he could be a big weapon for the Revolution at IC11 should he be available. The AFLQ site featured Dragus in an article ahead of his debut this week, we have reproduced the article below.

According to the Magpies, he has impressed from his very first night at the club, with his dedication and determination to improve and make the grade outstanding.

Magpies coach Paul Grentell said he was “very happy” with Dragus’ progression and that he’d made an increased contribution to his team performance with every game he has played after starting the premiership season in the reserves.

“His competitiveness and willingness to work hard has been fantastic and deserves to be rewarded. He provides us with height, athleticism and mobility and has a flexibility which allows him to play a role in a number of different structures,” said Grentell.

Including internal trials, practice games, QAFL pre-season games and the premiership season, Dragus has doubled his experience of eight games of Australian football for the Golden Gate Roos in 2009.

Off field, Magpies club development manager Anthony McDonald says Dragus has an unassuming nature, a good sense of humour and a “can do” approach to life.

He has become a very popular figure among his team mates and around the club.

According to McDonald, the Dragus interview at the Magpies season launch last month was one of the highlights of the evening as he charmed the room of over 100 guests reflecting on his Australian experiences and his affection for the club that has accepted him as one of its own.

Said Dragus: “It has been a crash course in footy since my arrival in February. I can’t wait to get on the field in a QAFL match and just play. I am pleased I have been given an opportunity to play at such a high standard so soon. My focus continues to be to contribute to the team by training hard, play the brand of football the coach desires and back my team mates and their work.”
