In the story regarding the formation of the new European Australian Football Association on 26th Jan '10 the Czech Republic is mentioned as one of the founding members and Norway, Austria and Wales becoming members shortly. Yet in the article 'European Regional Manager Wanted' in the job description section no mention is made of the Czech Republic as a member and Norway and Austria are included as affiliates. Is the non inclusion of the Czech Republic an clerical error and could any one explain difference between full member and an affiliate please.

Got confirmation that Czech Rep are in - them being missing on the Deve Officer position description form is just a typo.

The difference between affiliate and full member status has to do with whether a league fulfills the requirements for full membership under the EAFA charter.

I'm guessing that includes things like whether the league has a constitution.

I was hoping they would get someone from Australia, because that would give additional manpower: everybody involved in Footy in Europe will stay involved no matter if he has a full-time contract or not.

Hi Benno,

The above article was based on the job description as circulated to the European leagues, but I've heard there will also be candidates put forward from Australia - I understand that the AFL has also advertised the position through their channels.

So I have faith there'll be some tough competition for the position between some strong candidates.

I think it's a good point about European applicants already likely to be heavily involved in leagues there, but of course that will also be their great strength - they have a grass roots feel for things, will probably already be well known to a lot of the key people, maybe understand how the local governments work, etc. And they are more likely to have an EU passport and know more than just English. As long as they aren't the only person keeping their league alive then I reckon someone already over there would be preferable.
