Preview of Carlton and PNG's Peter Labi

Oceania

Footage has been posted on Youtube of Carlton's international scholarship player Peter Labi. After earlier moving to Queensland to develop his game with Nambour, in 2009 the 17 year old Papuan went on to have a great season for Mt Gravatt in the main AFL Queensland league, and also played five games as a "top up" player for the Brisbane Lions reserves. Indigenous player, Mt Gravatt star and former Brisbane Lions premiership player Darryl White took Peter under his wing, as did the club's coach David Lake, no doubt fast tracking his rise to prominence. Labi moved down to Melbourne in the last few weeks to commence his first AFL pre-season.

Plenty of goals from the young speedster, and a nice handball at 4:08.

Preview of Carlton and PNG's Peter Labi

Looks like he has good goal sense, good pace, and seemed to read the flight of the ball a lot earlier than the other players - that was the most exciting aspect to me, as the truly great players seem to pick it up that little bit quicker which allows them to react and gain the best position. If I was to look for a weakness he took a lot of chest marks and maybe didn't look as strong with the hands as you might like. But he's at an AFL club now and gets the chance to work on all of that. Good luck to him and let's hope he makes it onto the senior list one day.
