What happened to "live" scores ?

There hasn't been an update since the start of the game.

The suspense is killing me.

Go South Africa! But 8 behinds in the first quarter! the conditions must be bad down at Warrnambool.

Sean I'm sure there's a reason the scores weren't updated. A quick search online tells you:

South Africa 8.10 (58) d USA 5.6 (36)
Japan 15.16 (106) d India 0.0 (0)
PNG 7.9 (51) d Great Britain 3.2 (20)

You'd have to imagine that the US are devastated at throwing away their chance to win the tournament.

Unfortunately it's been a technological problem out of our control - fingers crossed won't be any further problems.

Thanks, Aaron

And then there were four!

In terms of taking out the champions title, if i read the draw correctly, there are now four teams who can do it.

With the winners of the following match ups going to the Grand Final.
New Zealand v Ireland
P.N.G v South Africa

Both matches promise to be of a high standard and hard fought till the final siren.
Can South Africa go all the way? Can the Kiwis defend the Cup? Will the Mosquito's have too much sting or will the Irish with a proud AFL heritage take the cup back to the Emerald Isle?

Regardless I can't wait to see how it all unfolds.

Finally... my boys from Finland have banged on a couple of goals... and actually won the 4th quarter...

... well done IceBreakers !!!

For all the lopsided scores - it has to be said that the boys improved massively in their 2nd match, despite not scoring.... and (I didn't see today) have clearly improved again...

provided the injuries are still low - the boys should expect a win next hit out.

and how about South Africa !!!

with the expected results in round 1 it was hard to cross compare... round 2 lifted the eyebrows... but how about that latest result.

This is proof of what we have been saying for years... throw some resources at it and the results will show...

IC 2012 or IC 2016 should see a much much stronger China and a much stronger India, if the South Africa formula is followed.

But what about Finland ??? can we have some of those resources ???

Yes, it is amazing. Is there a competitive domestic league in South Africa, such as the ones in England, Denmark, Ireland and Canada? I think not and if that is the case then it just shows what a serious amount of development input can do.

But you better get in line Rooster .... I'd reckon there are a number of countries who would think they should be looked after before Finland.

Of course the other side of the argument is does it really matter? At this stage in its infancy do all these nations need a great standard of play at their top level? Isn't it just more important to get in at the grass roots level and get more people playing the game and let the results look after themselves?

And I must say in hindsight the AFL did a pretty good job with the draw. With Round 3 being 1v2 and 3v4 it means that really only the first two rounds were going to have the real floggings. Should be a lot more competitive for all concerned from here on in. Only concern still was some of the poolings.

This was without a doubt the best round of the tournament with the better teams facing off... Though it seems the weather played a part in some of the scores...

My on gripe though would be the "Do or die" situation for the teams... i think it would have been better if the AFL added an extra finals round and had the "Top 2" of each pool go through...

For me (and this is my opinion) this would have been a better way to judge who are actually the better teams in the tournament...

Hi all, a few quick points on the day - stories will follow later.

1. Yes, we had expected to have mobile broadband coverage in Warrnambool, as we did at Royal Park, but discovered at the last moment that it didn't work.

2. We then became dependent on getting scores to people elsewhere who had net coverage, but most of our people would have been busy at work. We also borrowed access a few times from the AFL guys - we've shared scores and photos back and forth to help each other out throughout the tournament - it's all about getting the info out there.

3. We're a bunch of volunteers, just as most of the players and officials here, both internationals and locals, we don't get paid for this, and we are reliant on volunteers travelling down here. Several of our guys are teachers or students so can't choose when they get their leave, so we had two of us running around trying to cover 3 concurrent games between us, spread over 3 grounds that are a long way apart from each other.

4. Yep, the draw meant seeded 1 vs 2 for each pool and 3 v 4, so closer scores, plus it was at times wet, and almost always windy, which made scoring difficult.

5. There was a function tonight, pretty much straight after the games finished, so our match reports will trickle in over the next 24 hours.

6. The trouble with an extra round of finals is how could they fit it in. A lot of countries/players couldn't make it if it extended any longer, and they already play every second day, with 1 extra rest day before Warrnambool started. I can tell you, there's a growing attrition rate and the squads would have to be bigger too - some countries are already down below 18 reasonably fit men. So yes, it is too sudden death, but an extra round would be too much to ask I reckon.

If there had been two distinct divisions of eight it could have been done with no extra games.

To Brett and the other volunteers: I cannot express how hard it is for me to understand how much work you guys put in to this. The scores are up there quick and the match reports far better than the AFL ones. You guys are doing a fantastic job. I'm down here playing and it's far more easy to get the results of your home page rather than from the people at the grounds!! Keep it up and pad your self on the back.

Ah let's not get too sentimental, we're here as volunteers like a hundred other people (not including the players).
