The 2006 USAFL National Champions, the San Diego Lions play their first official US Footy match for 2007 this Saturday, June 16th at Doyle Park, La Jolla, California. They will be taking on a combined Arizona Hawks/Las Vegas Gamblers side. We also wonder if it's time for USFooty to introduce a new tradition.
The match starts at 3pm. Drinks and food will be available all day. We encourage anyone in the San Diego area to get along and see them in action. An after match function will be held at Latitude 32, Pacific Beach, for after the game drinks and some tucker from 7pm.
Here are the two locations on the one map:

We think the USAFL should look at the presentation of a National Champions pennant, as this weekend would be the appropriate time for the Lions to carry out the great Aussie Rules tradition of unfurling the flag at the first home game. We suspect the Lions may have an alternative ceremony using the Australian and American flags to mark the occasion in the absence of the traditional pennant.
The Hawks and Gamblers have both been gaining match practice for some months in their local competition and will be looking forward to the challenge of taking on last years National champs.
The Lions have not had the same long lead up to this match having only the one indoor exhibition match in addition to their preseason under their belt, so they may be a little slow out of the blocks. But given their unbeatable form last year we would expect them to be too strong at the end of the day. At any rate should be a great game at La Jolla.
