In the biggest employment recruitment operation of international Aussie Rules history, the AFL South Africa are currently seeking community development officers, four to be stationed in the North West Province and two each in the provinces of Kwa Zulu Natal, Gauteng and Western Cape. The positions are advertised as having a minimum monthly salary of 2000 Rand, with applications closing on May 9.

South Africa has recently seen a huge increase in attention and resources from AFL clubs keen to investigate the potential of the region as a breeding ground for tomorrow's footy stars. The local junior development program "Footy Wild" was also launched recently with plans to beef up exposure of young South Africans to the game. Footy Wild's kick off at Sedgars Park cricket ground in Potchefstroom coincided with a tour match by an elite Australian youth side against the South African Buffaloes.

The community development officers will be expected to take ownership of and deliver AFL South Africa Development programs in their regions under direct supervision from the Provincial Development Manager. This brief also includes helping to establish the “FootyWild” program as a new introductory sports initiative for boys and girls aged 8 – 13 years, developing a volunteer network to support the “FootyWild” program, establishing Primary & Secondary school footy competitions – Under 13 and Under 16, develop senior footy competitions through links with Universities and township networks and assisting with coordination of Coach and Umpire education courses.

More information, including a full job description, is available at the AFL South Africa website.
