North America Continuing a series of Aussie Rules exhibition matches at US pro sports events, the Orange County Bombers will take on the San Diego Lions in an experimental exhibition match on February 20 during the halftime break of a Los Angeles Avengers (Arena Football League) match.

Arena football, an indoors version of American Football played on a field of only 50 yards, was created in the eighties as an attempt to create a faster, higher-scoring version of American football. The US-wide professional Arena Football League was founded in 1987 and has since grown a huge following.

The OC Bombers are hoping for a full house of 16,000 spectators for the match, which will be held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

Other North American clubs to play exhibitions at pro sports matches in 2004 include the Denver Bulldogs at a Major League Soccer match and the Vancouver Cougars at a BC Lions game.

In addition, the Atlanta Kookaburras are hoping to soon close a deal which would see them play an exhibition game at a home match for their hometown Arena Football League side, the Georgia Force.
